The aim of the curriculum is to ensure that all students achieve their potential from the range of starting points that they will arrive with: ‘Every Child All The Time’.
‘Every Child, All the Time’ is an approach to student progress where every day, in every lesson, every student will be receiving the best possible learning experiences. It recognises the need to respond to students’ emotional needs as well as learning needs throughout their educational journey, appreciating that these needs are different for every child and can change at different stages of this journey. This approach has been central to the academic success of Norlington School over the past 5 years.’
We aim to ensure students achieve exceptional academic performance and that the curriculum delivers them with outstanding learning experiences. The curriculum is planned to enable all students to develop the skills and knowledge that they need to be successful in the range of subjects that they study, and to develop a range of competencies and attitudes towards their learning that supports this success.
The free school vision aims to promote STEM subjects with at least 50% and 75% of all students respectively studying Computer Science and Design Technology at KS4. This will be achieved by teachers ensuring engaging lessons are delivered at KS3, with a clear focus on problem based learning using appropriate technologies.
The Computing department will have a focus on software engineering at both KS3 and 4 and the Design and Technology department will ensure students are able to use Computer Aided Design and Manufacture, spread sheets and computer based presentations.
We will promote Triple Science for appropriate students to hopefully encourage the uptake of Physics for Post 16 courses. This will be supported by a careers programme that highlights the pathways to the wide range of STEM university courses and careers which are often highly paid.
