The proposed Free School will use the approach already successfully used to drive change at Norlington School. This transformation, under the leadership of John Hernandez, has led Norlington to be recognised as one of the highest performing schools nationally:
2012
Norlington was recognised as the most improved school in London.
2013
We received a letter recognising our academic success with students from disadvantaged backgrounds from the Minister of State for Schools.
2014
Norlington students achieved in the Top 1%* of all schools nationally for progress and in the top 5 of all state boys’ schools nationally. We received a second letter recognising our academic success
2015
Our students achieved in the top 1%* of all schools for student progress. Norlington was awarded Gold Club status under a scheme set up by the Mayor of London to recognise exceptional schools in the capital and we received our third Letter recognising our academic success from the Minister of State for Schools. (Sustained improvement).
Performance across several years has been notable for the lack of disparity between student groups, including students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Norlington was rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in Sept 2013 and has made significant progress since then and now provides a wide range of support programmes for schools including;
- nationally recognised Teaching and Learning training courses
- leadership of the local school improvement network
- leadership development and mentoring
- supporting schools in challenging circumstances in a variety of capacities including Executive Principal
